Dear Parents and Community Members,
We have made the decision to close Pecatonica Schools on March 16, 2020, and we will be using an emergency day (typically a snow day) for the closure. This emergency day will be added onto the end of the current school year calendar, and will be made up as one of the five emergency days built into our current 2019-2020 calendar. Monday, March 16, 2020 is our first use of an emergency (snow day).
Additionally, Governor Pritzker has issued a directive that all schools across Illinois will be closed on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through Monday, March 30, 2020 in effort to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19. Tuesday, March 17th through Friday, March 20th, as well as Monday, March 30th, will be considered “Act of God” days (as defined in the public school calendar), and will not be made up. Spring break dates will not change (March 23-27).
All activities and all practices will be cancelled from March 16th through March 30th.
During this time period, the District Office will be open with limited hours, but individual school offices will be closed.
The Illinois State Board of Education is encouraging school districts to maintain continuity of education throughout school closures. As such, we will continue to provide you with more information on remote learning opportunities over the next several days.
This is an unprecedented event: it is exceptionally fluid, with changes coming hourly. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we will continue to stay in close contact with the Winnebago County Health Department for their updates and guidance, and will continue to provide you with updates via our district website, Facebook site, and district communication system. In addition, the Pecatonica website has a resource page on topics related to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Please continue to check your email regularly, as we will continue to provide you with more information as it becomes available. Middle and high school students should also regularly check their Google Classrooms and student email accounts for communications from their teachers about remote learning opportunities.
Sincerely
Bill Faller
