4, 3, 2, 1..BLASTOFF! Rocket launching time at the middle school. Mrs. Dunham’s and Mrs. Lenox’s science students assembled rocket kits and launched during science classes throughout the week of May 20-23, 2019. The rockets lifted high into the sky soaring through the atmosphere and floated and fell to the ground. One team’s rocket couldn’t lift off on the first attempt as the motor mechanism was loose. This was fixed and back to the launch pad it went...The rocket took off reaching great heights. As it fell back to earth, the body tube parachute deployed and it floated gently back to earth. The attached nose cone, which detaches and floats separately, somehow ended up with a twisted parachute and the fell quickly back to earth scrambling the egg that was inside. The egg could be heard sloshing inside of it. The student team was able to explain why it would have been unsafe to launch the rockets without fixing the motor mount and were also able to explain what happened to the nose cone parachute and why it didn’t open. Many onlookers were present including the gym class that had just run the mile. Great job 8th grade teachers, Science classes, and special shout out to Alan Olson for rescuing a rocket part from a tree.
